My stepson does not listen to the news or read it. He’s right — they have stretched credulity beyond breaking. The new tactic is to set up petitions to crowdfunders to not allow badthinkers to fundraise. Even if their cause is Just. Even if the local Kiwi version won’t allow fundraising. It’s worth noting that this made the national news yesterday — and the media is against Folau. A good reason to pray for him.

The trouble is that this tactic worked. Our corporations are all converged: this was to be expected. People now mistrust governments, who are not able to pushed (as much). . They instead appeal to the managers of corporations: the very companies that monetize our attention and fundraising and communications. They have a track record of folding.

GoFundMe has removed Israel Folau’s fundraising page from its website and is issuing refunds to all his donors, saying the campaign breached its terms of service.
“Today we will be closing Israel Folau’s campaign and issuing full refunds to all donors. After a routine period of evaluation, we have concluded that this campaign violates our terms of service,” said Nicola Britton, GoFundMe’s Australia Regional Manager.
“As a company, we are absolutely committed to the fight for equality for LGBTIQ people and fostering an environment of inclusivity. While we welcome GoFundMes engaging in diverse civil debate, we do not tolerate the promotion of discrimination or exclusion.
“In the days since Mr Folau’s campaign launched, more than one million dollars have been donated to hundreds of other campaigns, large and small, across Australia. Those acts of kindness are the heart of GoFundMe.

Needless to say, this made the nightly news, with Folau cast as the villain. Folau believes what he does. In recent society, such behaviour belonged in the private realm and employers did not believe they could regulate the beliefs of their employees.

The real-life gay people I’ve actually known were not emotional basket cases, trapped in a slough of suicidal depression; quite the contrary, in fact. Exactly how this myth of gay victimhood became part of our cultural narrative is a subject worth studying, but my point is that this whole bake-me-a-cake business and the endless witch-hunt against “homophobia” is misguided, and contrary to First Amendment freedoms. If you have a right to say what you believe, how then can anyone compel you to say something you don’t believe? Certainly, in a free society, you cannot be forced to pretend that you approve of homosexuality if you don’t. As I say, old-fashioned courtesy would impose a polite silence in regard to such matters, but it’s difficult to remain silent while radical gay activists are attempting to shut down any business that does not endorse their agenda.

In an older society the Church regulated morals, and blasphemy laws had teeth. This new woke generation want them back, and this will not end well. It never has.

Social media, and mass media, are in the business of selling our eyeballs — our attention — to advertisers. The reason the Mass Media dislike social media so much is that advertisers have decided social media is a better advertising spend than they are. The circulation of our big newspapers is on average, half what it was a decade ago. But no man gets spiritual comfort from any company. That requires family and Church. We are hollow, and we are now told, over and over, we are broken. It is far better, instead, to get on and build a life. Our scars should not define us.

Men of my grandfathers’ generation who fought in WWII got on with it when they came home. They might have hit the bottle a little too much but they raised families and held down jobs after long years away in constantly brutal and dangerous environments. My next door neighbor as a kid was captured by the Japs at Singapore; his strawberries were the best on the block and we spent a hell of a lot of time playing armies with his grandsons in his own backyard. At times he would pop over the fence to inspect our hand built trenches and offer pointers on fields of fire and where to site our machine guns. He said it was better to die at your gun than to surrender and he left it at that.
This sort of behavior used to be known as stoicism which is the ability to exercise fortitude in the face of calamity. Australians of previous generations were hard men because they lived in hard times, at least relative to today. Yet back then they had the structure and surety of a society that was both recognizable and supportive, and where the rules were clear as to how to act. Today our societies are much reduced in this regard. We rely on government instead of Church and family.

It is better to emulate the veterans, not the current elite, the woke. The woke are not there only as a warning, and they failure, sadly, warms the cold cockles of my heart. Sadly, for there is no profit to anyone in hating a person, but seeing a woke institution in rubble should make us happy, for there is less evil in the world.

The anti-male hatemonger rose to fame from 2012 to 2016 by demonizing men in the videogame industry and claiming to be a victim of sexist harassment. In 2014, the year of the #GamerGate controversy, Sarkeesian’s Feminist Frequency project raised more than $400,000 and, over a five-year-period, her organization raised nearly $1.6 million. Yet as Brad Glasgow explains in a remarkable YouTube video, Sarkeesian’s non-profit is now essentially bankrupt, having begun the year with a balance of barely $30,000 and laying off its employees

Onto weird car things, and something from Scott. He lives up a hill. I live up a smaller one. He’s downsized his Ford, for good reasons. The new utes — bigger than the ones when I was a kid — could not make the turning circle we have. This winter we are parking the cars at the bottom of the drive — we have had work done and it is basically a skating rink with a 1 in 6 to 1 in 4 incline.

The dually, although incredible for its room, its stable towing platform and its creature comforts was proving to be a bit too much truck out here. Our little dirt road, with its hairpin turns is impassable at some points when the outer wheel gets hung up on a snow drift. The thing weighs almost 9000 lbs empty and once it stops in the snow, its done.

I am not a fan of Microsoft. The only reasons to run the windows are (a) you have to at work and (b) Capture One does not play nicely with Linux and you don’t have a Mac. But you cannot blame Microsoft for the idiocy of their OEMs. Half the time it is not Microsoft’s fault, but some other software’s DLLs. Which can be hacked.

The flaw lies in PC-Doctor Toolbox, systems analysis software which is rebadged and pre-installed on PCs made by some of the world’s biggest computer retailers, including Dell, its Alienware gaming brand, Staples and Corsair. Dell alone shipped almost 60M PCs last year and the company states PC-Doctor Toolbox (which it rebrands as part of ‘SupportAssist’) was pre-installed on “most” of them.

What SafeBreach has discovered is a high-severity flaw which allows attackers to swap-out harmless DLL files loaded during Toolbox diagnostic scans with DLLs containing a malicious payload. The injection of this code impacts both Windows 10 business and home PCs and enables hackers to gain complete control of your computer.
What makes it so dangerous is PC-makers give Toolbox high-permission level access to all your computer’s hardware and software so it can be monitored. The software can even give itself new, higher permission levels as it deems necessary. So once malicious code is injected via Toolbox, it can do just about anything to your PC.

My approach has been to take all my machines back to bare metal and install something stable on them. (Recently, that has been Fedora) Apart from fun machines (they get Manjaro). (As an aside, Macs are now running slower… than any of my ancient Linux boxes). It is very hard to do this with standard windows 10. The alternative would be Reactos,

However, ReactOS is not a daily driver, and WINE won’t run Capture one. So, if you can’t afford a Mac (or you are tight with money) and you have a Fuji camera (good on you) then build your own machine and run as close to no drivers on your windows machine.

I agree with nearly every criticism of social media, but that’s one thing it does well, and something those coming up to replace the PC Policed Zone need to consider. My extremely small business can afford an effective ad on social media – and so, whatever I think of FB generally, they’ll probably get my ad dollars.

And yay! 🙂 So happy it got there in one piece!

One of the things that has startled me – a very great deal – in the last two weeks is finding out that my FB ad has done amazingly well. A small (in terms of marketing budgets – not so small for me) investment has paid out in nearly a 1-$1 return of **shares** on FB, not just likes/clicks/eyeballs. Of COURSE MainStreamMedia hates social. Isn’t it all about the $$$$?
