There are a lot of people who think that the gifts of the spirit apply to them. That it is somewhat akin to being in the brownies or cubs and getting merit badges. But the gifts were given to the church. For the saints, which are those who are of the church.

The gift of God is the prophets, evangelists, shepherds and teachers who have been given in this time… and for them we should praise God. Their burden is higher than ours.

For the time is full of deceit, and the rulers of this world want us tossed from one fashion to the next, for their currency is not love, joy and peace but envy, jealousy and fear.

Ephesians 4:7

7 But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift

Ephesians 4:11-16

11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. 15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

  1. I’ve mostly found it awkward, to be honest. :p But if you’re not using your gifts for the church, what are you DOING? Also, how is that even possible, it makes me downright uncomfortable to not use them when I’m poked. Including when I didn’t have it in mind. :p
