Relentlessly cheerful, I said yesterday, and Stace says that cheerfulness and courage are virtues for this time.. They always are when times are bad. When you have proceeded to turn your ankle 10 km from the trailhead and help, a little muttering helps, but getting on with it helps more.
It's not about feelings. (You are in pain. You are not a cheerful puppy). It is about avoiding hypothermia, and getting safe. In these times, we need to look to our attitude, and avoid, above all things, greed and desire.
If we have food and a roof over our heads, and COVID 19 spares us, we will do well.
5 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; 2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.
3 But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints; 4 and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. 5 For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. 7 Therefore do not be partakers with them; 8 for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light 9 (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth),
I'm writing this as we are getting emails from colleauges who have had to self isolate because their kid knew a schoolmate with this infection, and the self isolation is designed to stop the spread of it. As businesses crash and shares lose value. As the borders are closed.
Yes, this is a crisis. Yes, this is a recession. Yes, there will be pain -- if we are spared, that is all it will be. But now is the time that we must be cheerful.
So put on your good clothes, get dressed, eat home made food, sit together for meals, and remember you self isolate as families. Pray for mercy, and pray that your life at this time will be a witness and not a cause for gossip.
And remember, at all times, that Christ for you died. You are worth far more than sparrows. Yes, this song is on repeat.
