I’ve has some problems with speed on the site. Given that I generally don’t use the block editor and that twenty twenty, the default theme for wordpress takes up a lot of room I’ve changed the theme. This allowed me to bring back a side bar, and photo headers. So, I’ve disabled AMP, and added Smush to compress files. That should speed this place up. I’ve changed the caching system as well. This has all improved loading times.

I like simple themes. So, at present its staying.

At the same time, I’ve switched “discourage search engines” ON and got rid of all the stats trackers except google analytics and Statcounter. The google plugin does have a good speed measuring app. I’ve deactivated bad behaviour, added a honeypot, and d

I like the new look a bit better. The next question is speeding it up at the server. To do this — log in, which is a hassle, then, given the server is a debian type environment, I did a server upgrade.

What I have not done is install jetpack. This slows things down.
