Let us consider marriage. It was from the beginning, and since the beginning it has been both a source of vexation and comfort. Satan tempted the wife for if nothing more than this: Adam loved her and listened to her. In this age, there is a high chance that your marriage will implode. Some would say that it is because it is not set firmly on Godly practice, but I’d say that none of us are godly enough, and our society is not set up that way.
It is fair and proper to say that marriage was ordained by God, and this ordinance is for our mutual comfort, and so that there will children born and raised optimally. As humans, we tend to pair bond, and in sane societies this is encouraged. In our society it is risky, and there are many who preach against it — saying we should instead be celibate. Some of them put a religious gloss on this, referring to St Paul, and forgetting St. Peter traveled with his wife.
I would add: if you don’t take the risk of loss, you will never love. Romantic love is for this dispensation: for middle earth (middengeard). When this world ends, we will be changed, and our passions will be akin to my dogs looking through the cupboards for kibble.
23 On that day some Sadducees (who say there is no resurrection) came to Jesus and questioned Him, 24 asking, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies having no children, his brother as next of kin shall marry his wife, and raise up children for his brother.’ 25 Now there were seven brothers with us; and the first married and died, and having no children left his wife to his brother; 26 so also the second, and the third, down to the seventh. 27 Last of all, the woman died. 28 In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had married her.”
29 But Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, not understanding the Scriptures nor the power of God. 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. 31 But regarding the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God: 32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.” 33 When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at His teaching.
We need to defend marriage. This requires we take risks, and are men, not minions. The ancients knew this, and they also refused to tolerate being treated as slaves. They were not always to be emulated, but they were closer to the truth than we are, including that the law relies on the cooperation of those it oppresses.
I am merely saying that living one’s life in fear of potentially wifing up a woman who may turn out to be less than entirely faithful and interested in playing the divorce lottery is not worthy of respect or emulation.
A man of the West takes risks. A man of the Wests molds his wife and his children. A man of the West is willing to fight for his honor, his family, and his civilization. Success is not guaranteed. But then, when, in the entire history of Man, has it ever been guaranteed? For millennia, young men of honor have fought and died for what they believe
This is a time when society is being changed. We will not come out of lockdown the same. It will not be business as usual. We may see families implode, but my bet is this: many will realize that they love their wife and children (or husband and children) now that they are not distracted by shiny objects were are informed that we must have — from the latest smartphone and car to whatever is the current fashions. We may find that some prefer to stay at home with their kids than return to work. We may find we don’t have as much: and we need to be frugal, garden, and make things last. We may find that housewifery is a skill, which it as always been.
And the lies of Satan will be undone. There is marriage in this time for our comfort, and it is something God made, not any judge. The judges need to fear instead the resurrection, when their actions will be examined, and they will be held to account. For they have converged with the spirit of this age, which is Satanic.
Do not be them. Do not be like them.
