THe Z man almost gets it here. He sees that the people who are preachig to us have no basis: they deny all Gods and traditions but require we respect them out of raw force. When we let them do small things they demand bigger things. The current taboo seems to be aroound showing your face. Kiwis are being preached at to mask up, and the same people are saying that the government should make mask wearing mandatory.
Yeah, Nah. These people are speaking cod science and cod logic. Their power is the use of law, though they disobey it.
This is the fundamental flaw in the current taboos. There’s no religious basis for anti-racism, for example. Even if there was, the people screaming about racism are flamboyantly opposed to religion. There’s nothing in our history or traditions that can be the moral authority for something like anti-racism. Republican virtue demands equality before the law and support for the basics of citizenship, but it does not require you to live next door to a black guy. In fact, it opposes such a requirement.
Most of the current taboos are deliberately conceived to contradict religion and tradition, which are dismissed as white privilege. The normal impulse to be around those with whom you have something in common has been anathematized in order to damage the normal functioning of society. Sending men dressed as women into the schools, while demanding everyone celebrate it, is nothing more than an outlandish rebuke of religion and tradition. Its only purpose is spite.
The same can be said for the whole catalog of modern taboos. There is no moral authority for them. There’s no logical basis for them either. A society that thinks sexualizing children is acceptable cannot rationally claim it is immoral to oppose the normalizing of men in dresses. The only authority for the current taboos is the force wielded by the taboo makers. They have control of the institutions and use that power to enforce these taboos on society.
The implied promise is that if we manage to remain a team, all wear our masks, all stay at home, then we will again be prosperous, and belssed. That we don’t need God, we just need the technocrats. We should worship instead our leaders and their advisors. They are sainss and prophets.
But they are making it up. They are false.
13 But I said, “Alas, Sovereign Lord! The prophets keep telling them, ‘You will not see the sword or suffer famine. Indeed, I will give you lasting peace in this place.’”
14 Then the Lord said to me, “The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I have not sent them or appointed them or spoken to them. They are prophesying to you false visions, divinations, idolatries and the delusions of their own minds. 15 Therefore this is what the Lord says about the prophets who are prophesying in my name: I did not send them, yet they are saying, ‘No sword or famine will touch this land.’ Those same prophets will perish by sword and famine. 16 And the people they are prophesying to will be thrown out into the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and sword. There will be no one to bury them, their wives, their sons and their daughters. I will pour out on them the calamity they deserve.
17 “Speak this word to them:
“‘Let my eyes overflow with tears
night and day without ceasing;
for the Virgin Daughter, my people,
has suffered a grievous wound,
a crushing blow.
18 If I go into the country,
I see those slain by the sword;
if I go into the city,
I see the ravages of famine.
Both prophet and priest
have gone to a land they know not.’”
One of the things that I’m finding as I talk to some of the brothers who are a tad older than me is that they are exhausted. And worried. Not as much for themselves, though a fair number have health issues and Kea is fairly direct about telling them what to eat and how to do things when she talks one to one, but around the younger blokes and how they will survive. We are all seeing the church grow, and we all see a storm coming.
Living through a few storms does that. As the economic crutches in our community get kicked away you will be left with family: family of blood and family of God. The family of diversity will shatter.
It is time to be gentle and righteous and merciful, without letting any one of those things be twisted and weaponized by the family of diversity, who hate being held to account.
5 1 Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children 2 and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
3 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. 4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. 5 For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient.
I’ve been walking around Queenstown today. There are young men and women, huddled in last year’s winter gear in the sun as a Southerly froze the empty town. I was thinking of friends discussing how there will be payback. If you mock the laws of God, God will either leave you alone and you will fall — or if he has mercy, like a father he will correct you. Often using consequences. A poor Dad will put a kid in cotton wool: a loving Dad will make his child accountable for their actions when they are young so that they understand that as adults what they do matters to them and those around them.
This can be illness: it can be times of poverty: it can be the dark night of the soul. We all are doing it hard and we need to support and love our families and our brothers in Christ.
Queenstown was rich: it is now poor and feels desperately creepy. The flags are that of diversity. But that will not survive.
Turn not to the lies of the elite, but to God.
