There are those who are arguing that the American election results will be a stress test of their ability to clean house. I hope that is true.

I also am reminded of something that Ruth Graham is said to have stated:

If God does not punish American then he is going to have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah

My mate in the mountains wife, who is astute says The generation that killed their babies will be killed by their childre and another of my friends has been saying how the crazy prophets she listens too had predicted that this could end up very badly.

I am uncertain. I see patterns in history. And one of them is that when we walk away from God, there are consequences, which are considerable if we claim that we walked with him in the first place. I would add that this is not necessarily individual, but corporate. Our nations may be apostate, and we are facing the wrath of God, justly.

Amos 3:1-12

3 Hear this word that the Lord has spoken against you, O people of Israel, against the whole family that I brought up out of the land of Egypt:

2 “You only have I known
of all the families of the earth;
therefore I will punish you
for all your iniquities.
3 “Do two walk together,
unless they have agreed to meet?
4 Does a lion roar in the forest,
when he has no prey?
Does a young lion cry out from his den,
if he has taken nothing?
5 Does a bird fall in a snare on the earth,
when there is no trap for it?
Does a snare spring up from the ground,
when it has taken nothing?
6 Is a trumpet blown in a city,
and the people are not afraid?
Does disaster come to a city,
unless the Lord has done it?
7 “For the Lord God does nothing
without revealing his secret
to his servants the prophets.
8 The lion has roared;
who will not fear?
The Lord God has spoken;
who can but prophesy?”
9 Proclaim to the strongholds in Ashdod
and to the strongholds in the land of Egypt,
and say, “Assemble yourselves on the mountains of Samaria,
and see the great tumults within her,
and the oppressed in her midst.”
10 “They do not know how to do right,” declares the Lord,
“those who store up violence and robbery in their strongholds.”

11 Therefore thus says the Lord God:

“An adversary shall surround the land
and bring down your defences from you,
and your strongholds shall be plundered.”

12 Thus says the Lord: “As the shepherd rescues from the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear, so shall the people of Israel who dwell in Samaria be rescued, with the corner of a couch and part of a bed.

There is always a faithful remnant. And there is always a witness. We have been called at this time to be such. There are many who appear to be credentialed, but have not a molecule of discernment or understanding of the times. They will not repent, regardless of what will happen. This also has been predicted.

And can a third of the population be killed? Yes. Yersina Pestis did this:: we called it the Black Death.

Revelation 9:13-21

13 Then the sixth angel blew his trumpet, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar before God, 14 saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.” 15 So the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour, the day, the month, and the year, were released to kill a third of mankind. 16 The number of mounted troops was twice ten thousand times ten thousand; I heard their number. 17 And this is how I saw the horses in my vision and those who rode them: they wore breastplates the colour of fire and of sapphire and of sulphur, and the heads of the horses were like lions’ heads, and fire and smoke and sulphur came out of their mouths. 18 By these three plagues a third of mankind was killed, by the fire and smoke and sulphur coming out of their mouths. 19 For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails, for their tails are like serpents with heads, and by means of them they wound.

20 The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands nor give up worshipping demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which cannot see or hear or walk, 21 nor did they repent of their murders or their sorceries or their sexual immorality or their thefts.

As Jack notes, this is not what the Bible says.

If you are not aware that we do sin, and that we are flawed, broken and without Christ doomed to destruction by our own actions we get smug. We don’t see the need for repentance. We become prideful. Jack from Sigma Frame is correct that this means there is no nuance because their is no reflection. All is virtue signals, and nothing is good.

The outstanding question in my mind is why liberals would emphasize the Care and Fairness ethics to eclipse the other three. To be generous, I can only guess that they’ve suffered an inordinate degree of cruelty and betrayal, and feel motivated to seek justice. (I suppose this is why they’re called “Bleeding Heart” liberals.) But being realistic, I know this is not entirely true, because many liberals lead very comfortable lives. I tend to believe that liberals are fully convinced that either the world was never broken by sin, or that the sin of the world might somehow be ameliorated through social activism, one person at a time.* If so, then a Calvinist liberal is somewhat of an oxymoron, because such is a denial of Christ.

What we do know that the Glory of the LORD will fill the earth. Eventually. But there will be resistance all the way.

So stand against this society. It is ephemeral. Cling instead to the eternal, which is Christ.
