We are called, gentlemen, to be men. We need to kick our idolatry to the curb. All of it. Those who worship women, and fantasiste of how wonferful their avatar is, or their Fran Time. We are here to give glory to God.
This world want to distract us, by ritual, by getting us chasing shiny and pretty things. Which is easy. We like pretty. I am married to an artist, and we both like cool old things. Like this.
But we don’t want to own one of those. Too much worry, too much effort. The folks who have the dollars to maintain such things do good, and we praise and admire them. Covetousness is idolatry, It can be objects, or it can be status. If you worry too much about your self esteem, dogs bully you and women are creeped out by you, then you need to kill your self esteem and become a team player.
This is not so that we can succeed, but because Christianity is not a solo sport. Even anchorites and monks live in community.
Everything that I have written above needs to be done while keeping God in mind. If you try to build up your muscles for cosmetic reasons, this is stupid and indulgent. God doesn’t need preening prima donnas standing in front of mirrors taking half-naked selfies – you’re not a woman, you’re a MAN, so start acting like one.
Similarly, God doesn’t need men who show up to organisations in order to subvert them for an ideological agenda. We’ve got quite enough of that shit happening in our churches as it is. We need warriors, not wusses and tattle-tales.
If you are unsure of how to get started – pray. Institute a daily prayer rule. Sincerely call upon God the Father of Jesus Christ of Nazareth to help you. And He assuredly will.
Focus all of your heart and soul and mind upon God’s will, and He will guide you as He wishes. The steps that I have outlined for you above will lead you closer to Him – but ultimately you have to choose to ask Him for His help. He will give it, but you have to ask.
In New Zealand there are those who insist that we pray (Karakia) before meetings. But generally it is not this. Instead the prayer is to Tane, the God of the forest, or Rangi and Papa, or the hills, or the mountains. Or the ancestors. Our public religion has gone pagan, and that corruption is one God judges. The temples of those cults lie in ruins, from the Cathars to Te Kooti.
6 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, set your face towards the mountains of Israel, and prophesy against them, 3 and say, You mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God! Thus says the Lord God to the mountains and the hills, to the ravines and the valleys: Behold, I, even I, will bring a sword upon you, and I will destroy your high places. 4 Your altars shall become desolate, and your incense altars shall be broken, and I will cast down your slain before your idols. 5 And I will lay the dead bodies of the people of Israel before their idols, and I will scatter your bones around your altars. 6 Wherever you dwell, the cities shall be waste and the high places ruined, so that your altars will be waste and ruined, your idols broken and destroyed, your incense altars cut down, and your works wiped out. 7 And the slain shall fall in your midst, and you shall know that I am the Lord.
8 “Yet I will leave some of you alive. When you have among the nations some who escape the sword, and when you are scattered through the countries, 9 then those of you who escape will remember me among the nations where they are carried captive, how I have been broken over their whoring heart that has departed from me and over their eyes that go whoring after their idols. And they will be loathsome in their own sight for the evils that they have committed, for all their abominations. 10 And they shall know that I am the Lord. I have not said in vain that I would do this evil to them.”
11 Thus says the Lord God: “Clap your hands and stamp your foot and say, Alas, because of all the evil abominations of the house of Israel, for they shall fall by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence. 12 He who is far off shall die of pestilence, and he who is near shall fall by the sword, and he who is left and is preserved shall die of famine. Thus I will spend my fury upon them. 13 And you shall know that I am the Lord, when their slain lie among their idols around their altars, on every high hill, on all the mountaintops, under every green tree, and under every leafy oak, wherever they offered pleasing aroma to all their idols. 14 And I will stretch out my hand against them and make the land desolate and waste, in all their dwelling places, from the wilderness to Riblah. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”
16 Then I heard a loud voice from the temple telling the seven angels, “Go and pour out on the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God.”
2 So the first angel went and poured out his bowl on the earth, and harmful and painful sores came upon the people who bore the mark of the beast and worshipped its image.
3 The second angel poured out his bowl into the sea, and it became like the blood of a corpse, and every living thing died that was in the sea.
4 The third angel poured out his bowl into the rivers and the springs of water, and they became blood. 5 And I heard the angel in charge of the waters[a] say,
“Just are you, O Holy One, who is and who was,
for you brought these judgements.
6 For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets,
and you have given them blood to drink.
It is what they deserve!”
7 And I heard the altar saying,
“Yes, Lord God the Almighty,
true and just are your judgements!”
The judgement of God is just and true. It will not allow us to lie to ourselves, particularly when what we think is Christianity is some form of secular syncretism. Ringatu, the religion of Te Kooti, is one with the Shakers. Fossilized, of interest to historians only: the difference is that there are still a few Ringatu (the more modern Maori syncretism is Ratana, and the two are often conflated). If we worship self esteem and consider the divine in ourselves, we are being pagan. The Stoics will call us out. The current religious version of this is progressive Christianity.
Progressive Christianity has a connotation of including theological convergence, Critical Race Theory, Feminism, and Intersectional fluff, among other things.
To make this distinction clear to the reader,
A commentator at the same post expressed this form of idolatry clearly.
I don’t think you can use the word “progressive” at all — it is utterly tainted with another meaning that has nothing to do at all with anything Christian in substance. The whole idea of anything “progressive” is to move away from anything Christianity stands for, because Christianity is the “establishment culture of the past” of the West, par excellence.
“Progressive Christianity” is a term people are using to kind of repackage some things that came out of the “Emerging Church” movement — something which was openly about “embracing a generous orthodoxy”, which always comes down to meaning “disregarding orthodoxy” because “orthodoxy”, whatever else it may be, is never “generous” by definition, because it always excludes things that are not considered “orthodox”. The “Progressive Christians” are really people who are seeking to be kind of like liberal Christians are in practice, but with a post-modern mindset about it — they are using post-modernism as a means to bring back some things from the past (most often liturgical or devotional practices), while maintaining a kind of agnosticism about the truth claims made in the past as compared with the “generous orthodoxy” of truth that they promote, which happens to reflect more or less entirely the cultural progressivism of the surrounding post-modern culture.
These churches are not churches. They are akin to the altars on the top of the mountains the local folk kept for the old Gods of the Amorites and Cannanites they were commanded not to have anything to do with. They are converged with the spirit of the age. They tend to take pride in flying the rancid rainbow and talking about black lives matter. The men are highly intelligent cowards and creeps, and the women termagents.
This is no the church. It is trap. Those who run such a church will be called to account. If you find yourself in such a post modern circle of man created hell — and you can find such places with every label from Orthodox to Latinate High Church Anglican to Post Pentecostal — do not walk out of that place.
Run. For they want you to worship their lies.
