Society is made up of humans, and most of us humans want to do as little as possible. Until we are bored, then we want to just do stuff. Last night, within a couple of hours of stopping work, I was thinking about hardware, blockchains and researching this: finiding that it was either Chinses undustrial mining or woke ecofriendly stuff that won't help.
In the annual calendar, this is the last day of advent and we are supposed to be fasting, before the feast of Christmas. What I have seen instead is the usual gluttony and intoxication. We feast fairly constantly through December, and spend, and continue until the creidt card bill comes in February, and the scales start groaning.
But... there is something deeper going on this Chritmas. There is a constutional crisis in the USA -- caused by electoral cheating (we have the same issues with early voting here) and this will lead to a change. The people in power forget that the world is not something you can project using linear regression and partial maps.
We don't know what our planning will bring. The current COVID 19 advertisements say that we will stop summer if we don;t use the bloody tracking app and waash our hands. At this point, I am thinking Tui beer.
I am an old fart, and I have not yet had four of the kids wedded off. Like Stacey McCain, I pra that they find wonderful people to love, and that their intimacy will not be microregulated by public health morons. This is not how the world will be peopled. It is however the end game for the hippies and their woke minions in the millennials.
That's the problem with measures imposed on society for even a good reason (and, let's admit, restricting the spread of disease is - at least nominally - a good reason). All too often, the measures are not fully explained, or even rationally analyzed from a scientific perspective. They're thrown out there in a desperate attempt to do something - anything! - to improve the situation. If they don't work, the bureaucrats involved try to threaten people into compliance, or manipulate them into cooperating rather than questioning.
That's how freedom vanishes. By all means, let scientifically valid measures be taken, and let compliance be not just requested, but regulated: but make sure that the measures are, indeed, valid, not just bureaucratic knee-jerks. In the case of far too many measures against COVID-19, the cure has proved worse than the disease. If we beat the pandemic, but destroy our economy in the process, what have we really achieved?
It is far better to be wed, and then loved deeply, or be alone, and godly. The younger generation has ssen mine. The women have only cats: their children have left in discgust. The men are worse: they are Non Playing Characters.
And the turn is coming, for this disgusts them. And rightly so.
3 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
2 a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
3 a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. 18 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
This week, I've been posting Christmas photos of dogs. Because the make me laugh, and as I've been dealing with a fair amount of crisis and despair and reports (but I repeat myself) I've needed all the mind bleach I can find. Almost everyone I see is exhausted. The moronetter we have as a PM says that she wants to give the middle finger to this year and that next year will be better.
I don't think it will. It will be a crisis. Our society will change, and I pray that this trial will bring us out of our stupor of sin and repentant, back on to our knees.
The reality is that we have spent decades in an era of unprecedented peace and prosperity. And that era was built on illusions. And we are now paying the price for our folly.
Do not mistake my words. I do NOT for one single moment claim that the suffering and death caused by the Kung Flu is in any way justified by past actions. It absolutely is not. This is a horrible disease that leaves lasting damage on many of the people it infects. Tens of thousands of people around the world are struggling with aftereffects that will last for quite probably the rest of their lives.
Here I specifically mean that for the past 30 years we have fooled ourselves into believing that the march of progress is ever upwards. We deceived ourselves into thinking that life will get easier over time. And we did not learn the lessons from history that are so neatly summed up in the graphic above. That is one of my absolute favourite memes, simply because of the unshakeable truth at its core.
This love of comfort has made fools of men – yourself, and myself, included. We have become far too attached to material things. In the process, we have often lost sight of the things that truly matter. Faith, freedom, and family are all considered secondary aspects of our lives far more often than many of us would care to admit.
If 2020 has taught us one truly harsh and necessary lesson, it is this:
Do not get too comfortable. Everything that you have can AND ABSOLUTELY WILL be taken from you before you have time to catch your breath.
Before I leave politics and the covid, and thery are there because they are real, read this. And do it. Lose weight, get outside, get fit, get hard. The crisis is not over.
But, Weka, you are supposed to be spiritual! This is the joyous time of the year. Do your job support charities, and let the rulers damn the nation.
May God never allow this to happen. While we can still speak, we need to proclaim Christ. Yes, we should help those in need.
But the economy is tanked, and those who worship that idol we should ignore. Let us proclaim Christ. This crisis, if we want to survive, will not end up with us doubling down on wokeness, but returning to the beautiful, the true, and the honourable. To the praise of God, who is behind all good things.
