One of the risks at the moment is that we will consumed by wrath and revenge. Steiner, in his notes on the apocalypse, like too many therapists and Victorians, relied too much on pattern recognition and esotericism. One should take them lightly, and in particularly the timing. Steiner is as correct here as Bishop Usher — and the good Bishop is far more conservative in his exegesis. I think the more interesting use of these ideas is from Charlton, and it is a warning.

My idea here is that the Ahrimanic impulse – which is evil in its cold, rational, systematic manifestation – has over the past couple of centuries consumed the more traditional Luciferic (‘devilish’) evil of short-termist personal lust, pleasure and torment. And is now being-consumed, in his turn, by ‘Sorath’…. The final turning-point of the Ahrimanic consumption of Lucifer was when the Luciferic revival of the 1960s (‘sex & drugs & rock-n-roll’) was captured by the state bureaucracy – leading to a pervasive and intrusive system of monitoring and control for political correctness.  Modern leaders are primarily Ahrimanic – and often anonymous/ hidden/ personally-timid; while old-style leaders were often Luciferic gangsters and pirates who cultivated a reputation for recklessness and the enjoyment of inflicting cruelty.  Luciferic evil now operates at a low-level in The System – among the mooks, minions and henchmen; while the ruling architects of evil have an Ahrimanic nature…. But from about 2000; there was a further move towards the purest, most absolutely negative form of evil – which could be named Sorathic (adapting this from Rudolf Steiner’s identification of Sorath as the most extremely evil of beings). Sorathic evil is neither about pleasure nor about control; it tends towards the purely destructive. If Luciferic evil is motivated by short-teremist pleasure; while Ahrimanic evil is motivated by God-denial, spiritual blindness and reductionism towards a meaningless world of mechanical procedures; then the Sorathic impulse is driven by negative impulses – primarily fear, resentment and hatred. This is the Sorathic world we inhabit in 2020

Bruce Charlton.

Charlton would say this is evil. I would say that these temptations run in generational cycles: the destruction of the Great War led to the Jazz age with loosened social morals, and then to the bureaucracy of the national socialists (from Labour in New Zealand and the Democratic Party under FDR to the NSDAP). to a second cycle of destruction in the second part of the long war. Another cycle stated after the war — Francis Schaeffer was seeing this in the 1960s as the foundations of post modernism were being outlined by Jaspers and Satre. But now we are in the endgame, and the joker is the incarnation of an ancient evil. Mundabor is seeing something similar, talking about that idiot Pelosi.

Will the Evil Woman succeed? I don’t know, but I think that she has been, on the whole, shortsighted on impeachment; something which, I think, was due exclusively to reason number 1 above, and almost cost her the job. She plays a dangerous game of stoking the flames, and I seem to remember that such games tend to work very well, in time, against those who start them. What Pelosi made plausible today, AOC or someone like her might use against Pelosi tomorrow. You should not play with fire.

if you are driven by rage, you will preach justice coming and that there will be glorious revolution. The just will triumph, right here, right now. You will align with those who are not of Christ so that you can make a heaven on this earth. You will seek power. The risk here is to your soul. You will become apostate, you will vulgarize your proclamation of Christ in a forlorn hope for relevance and praise from those who have aligned with evil. That never works.

But God instead seeks the broken and humble. He does not seek the great, for they say their actions caused the nation to rise.

The broken instead praise God, for they know it was his doing.

14 Fear not, you worm Jacob,
you men of Israel!
I am the one who helps you, declares the Lord;
your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.
15 Behold, I make of you a threshing sledge,
new, sharp, and having teeth;
you shall thresh the mountains and crush them,
and you shall make the hills like chaff;
16 you shall winnow them, and the wind shall carry them away,
and the tempest shall scatter them.
And you shall rejoice in the Lord;
in the Holy One of Israel you shall glory.
17 When the poor and needy seek water,
and there is none,
and their tongue is parched with thirst,
I the Lord will answer them;
I the God of Israel will not forsake them.
18 I will open rivers on the bare heights,
and fountains in the midst of the valleys.
I will make the wilderness a pool of water,
and the dry land springs of water.
19 I will put in the wilderness the cedar,
the acacia, the myrtle, and the olive.
I will set in the desert the cypress,
the plane and the pine together,
20 that they may see and know,
may consider and understand together,
that the hand of the Lord has done this,
the Holy One of Israel has created it.

Isaiah 41:14-20

29 The next day he saw Jesus coming towards him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’ 31 I myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.” 32 And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. 33 I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.”

John 1:29-34

There is always a question of why Christ was baptized into a baptism of repentance. He was without sin or stain, and he did not need this. He did it so the Scripture was fulfilled. He did it so he identified with those who were penitent.

And he did it to show that his kngodm was not going to be one of power and legions and the removal of the Roamns. That was something of this wrold and this world is ephemerial.

He wanted to do something more significant, and he succeeded.

I’m writing about this concept tomorrow . . . thanks for the inspiration!
