One of the really odd things that evil people do is boast. About their power, their potency, their triumphs. Even when this does not work in their favour. There is a time in any project where the best thing to do is to work like crazy and shut up.
You don’t plow a field by talking about it. Lawyers and managers take note.
I’m not sure if this is why Jesus shut up the evil spirits. Their publicity was not his agenda. He did not want their praise. He wanted them driven out and gone.
7 Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea, and a great crowd followed, from Galilee and Judea 8 and Jerusalem and Idumea and from beyond the Jordan and from around Tyre and Sidon. When the great crowd heard all that he was doing, they came to him. 9 And he told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, lest they crush him, 10 for he had healed many, so that all who had diseases pressed around him to touch him. 11 And whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.” 12 And he strictly ordered them not to make him known.
To reiterate: those who are evil, within the church, can’t help but display their power and want to make it known. they love to corrupt, as cheaply as possible, using honeyed words to comfort you and above all keep you from repentance.
Repentance is painful and hard. But it is the only thing that will lead us to bend the knee at the cross.
You can pick them by their virtue signalling.
For virtue signalling is the equivalent of talking about plowing aw the fields lie fallow in spring.
