Orthodox Preists

I have said many thmes that I’m a protestant, yet I keep quoting papists and orthodox. The old Ulstermen who were the backbone of the Kiwi Presbyerian Churuch before it went all woofly would be appalled, because there is certain lack of doctrinal purity.

But this is not a time of righteousnous, but of Sorathic evil when all things are beign destroyed for nothing more than viirtue signals, including the means to fulfil any plans for evil or plan rationally.

There is now a functional unity that has nothing to do with thurch politics or the theological disputations of past generations. I firmly beleive that all systematic theologians are going to confess to God at the judgement that their sepculations were akin to calling the crayon drwaings of th four yoear old high art, when they contemplate the full glory of Gor. At the moment we see darkly. We sall then see true.

And the one thing we are called to is to love our brother. though he irriates us. He may be a oain. He may be praying the rosary or the jesus prayer. He may find the free prayer of us Prots equelly difficult. But we have to back the faithful, and cover their back.

For the world truly hates all those of faith, and aims to converge us from the top down. But truth generally is grasped by those not called wise, whom the world considers lowly.

Psalm 133
A Song of Ascents. Of David.
133 Behold, how good and pleasant it is
when brothers dwell in unity
2 It is like the precious oil on the head,
running down on the beard,
on the beard of Aaron,
running down on the collar of his robes!
3 It is like the dew of Hermon,
which falls on the mountains of Zion!
For there the Lord has commanded the blessing,
life forevermore.

Acts 2:42-47
42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

There are some cveats, I own property: I’m married and have kids and thus I provide for them. There is a great need for clear thinking , though this world has difficulty with what words mean. There is still the toolkit of experiment, replication and analysis: there is still the need to read the original text. I reflect: the very few times I have ever been asked to preach I had to revise my Greek nad rely on those who read Hebrew to comprehend to full meaning, and preach rightly.

But when one is teahing, a fair amount of this should be hidden. What matters is that the truth is cearly defined, and error avoided.

And one error is to be overly judgmental of those woose traditions are not yours, when they agree on essentials: there are plenty of heretical cults which are have more comfortable tranditions, but are deeply in error. the progressive branches of tevery denomination use that very comfort with tradition to sneak error in .

Which need not be.

I’ve said the Prebsyterians were woofly and they are, partiularly in my university town. But we went to a country church last Sunday, for Easter, because one of our friends worships there. It was plain, very plain. Presbyterian. And the gospel was prloclaimed, the word revealed, and there was untily in our worship.

We sighed deeply. It is a joy to see a healthy churhch in unity.

May we all find that. For this world wants to divide that which God wants united, and unite that which God wants apart. But we are not to follow this world.

We are to follow Christ.
