There are three tempations for this time. The first is that we succumb to anger, and move from nonadherence to evil -- which is our duty -- to civil disobedience and active insurrection. The second is that we move to despair, seeing that the enemy is running mandatory victory parades (but doing very little to change things). And the third is that we think the times are not evil.
They are. We should have no illusions.
Atheists and humanists love to rabbit on about how the God of the Bible must be unimaginably cruel and evil to command the total extermination of the Canaanites. Well, remember why He did it. He ordered it because the Canaanites had flouted His commandments for hundreds of years – and had resorted to outright child and human sacrifice on the altar of their pagan gods, Dagon, Baal, and Moloch. They would BURN CHILDREN ALIVE on the altar to Moloch as a sacrificial offering.
That level of evil once existed in the Levant, and God was so enraged by it that He ordered His chosen people to enact judgement upon those responsible. And they FAILED to do it.
All of this is historically accurate. We now have actual archaeological and literary evidence proving it.
Now, given the fact that this was a part of human history for quite some time, what makes you think that this sort of evil is less common in a world that has turned its back on God?
But we are now moving from purification to restoration. The purification happens first. The people of israel and Judah practiced the evil of the Levant, which was everything Didact notes, and they were to be cleansed. The verses before our first passage help understand the passage and they read.
“For behold, I will command,
and shake the house of Israel among all the nations
as one shakes with a sieve,
but no pebble shall fall to the earth.
10 All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword,
who say, ‘Disaster shall not overtake or meet us.’
We know that our restoration into the family and kingdom of God comes from repentance and turning to Christ, knowing that we cannot earn our way into the love of God, nor can we recompense for the evil we have done, but we can only accept Christ died for our sins. At that point, we can be restored, both individuqlly and then as a people.
But the people have to purge the sin from among them, for the sake of the innocent. It is far better this happens by revival than by the hand of God winnowing the nation to a remnant who seek him alone.
11 “In that day I will raise up
the booth of David that is fallen
and repair its breaches,
and raise up its ruins
and rebuild it as in the days of old,
12 that they may possess the remnant of Edom
and all the nations who are called by my name,”
declares the Lord who does this.
13 “Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord,
“when the plowman shall overtake the reaper
and the treader of grapes him who sows the seed;
the mountains shall drip sweet wine,
and all the hills shall flow with it.
14 I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel,
and they shall rebuild the ruined cities and inhabit them;
they shall plant vineyards and drink their wine,
and they shall make gardens and eat their fruit.
15 I will plant them on their land,
and they shall never again be uprooted
out of the land that I have given them,”
says the Lord your God.
31 “To what then shall I compare the people of this generation, and what are they like? 32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another,
“‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance;
we sang a dirge, and you did not weep.’
33 For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ 34 The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ 35 Yet wisdom is justified by all her children.”
The temptation at this time is to listen t this world, who will never be satisfied with those who are sent to them. Their verson of righteousness changes constantly, because they aere not interested in righteousness, or wisdom, or harmony.
They are interested in dividing epople. causing conflict, and taking the power and weatlh from both sides. Ftom John WIlder:
Every place (and I mean every place) that I’ve worked where things went well, there wasn’t a sense of entitlement. People worked hard, heck, sometimes competed to work harder. It wasn’t about the money, it was about doing good work. But one person can show up in a workplace and destroy that cohesion.
All they have to do is convince a few people that they’re being taken advantage of.
It would be very easy to go for a spectacular solution and try to impose reformation from the top of society. But those heights are controlled by the woke, who are fools. That was tried in the USA under the last president. It failed, and they will not change.
They are as aligned with evil as were the priests of Molech: it is not without reason that they have legalized abortion to birth and are trying to recruit doctors into an euthanasia service in New Zealand.
What we can do is not give our allegiance to the ideology, attend their rituals, or seek their praise.
We shall pray for their repentance,
But in the meantime we will rebuild that thing they fear and that thing that will outlast them.
