There is a place for discretion, and this includes within the church. One should support the church, indeed, but no one should know how much bar the person who gives you a certificate for tax refunds. (And your wife. Giving should be agreed on).

If you have a radical diet — and we do — then you eat at home and don’t take it to church.

You dress neatly but like everyone else. You fit in.

You take the elements are they are given to you. You don’t say I won’t touch the wine because I can’t drink — in most Presbyterian churches it is not wine because wine is expensive.

In not boasting you encourage the unity of the congregation.

1 Corinthians 11:17-22

17 Now in giving this next instruction I do not praise you, because you come together not for the better, but for the worse. 18 For, in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that divisions exist among you; and in part I believe it. 19 For there also have to be factions among you, so that those who are approved may become evident among you. 20 Therefore when you come together it is not to eat the Lord’s Supper, 21 for when you eat, each one takes his own supper first; and one goes hungry while another gets drunk. 22 What! Do you not have houses in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the church of God and shame those who have nothing? What am I to say to you? Shall I praise you? In this I do not praise you.

A fair number of the people I link to are discussing how awful their governments have become.

Obvious is obvious. The governments of the West stopped listening to the spirit of God about the same time they legalized abortion. They now do not worship God. Instead we have new pagan religions. We consider the overt prayers of the Pacific Islanders quaint.

And then wonder why they beat our pagan national postcolonial post Christian teams.

In the meantime, drive an old car, wear clothing that is a little too plain for your status, and pray fergently for your family.

When the mandatory birdemic meetings are on, be somewhere else.

For all this is going to fall over. Really soon.
