I have never owned a Lada Niva. I could not justify, when the kids were young and we could get these basic Russian things, a tramping car one would leave at the trailhead, knowing no one would steal it. Which is what they were good at. They are rugged. I once owned the sedan Lada and dropped if two feet down a ditch — and it kept on going.
I could do that in our current SUV, but it would then require German technicians. A Lada requires a hammer and a spanner.
Which brings me to the theme for this week’s music. Cheap cars, good fun. Taken from David Linley’s cover of a 1948 song, now owned by Ford.
Trains, not cars, but fun.
