25th October 2021

We have spent this weekend — it is a long weekend here — with parents and people of our parents generation. They were bought up in the church or close to it and chose to remain or leave. They are left with a liberal set of assumptions: that men are fundamentally decent, that there is progress, and that truth and beauty matter. Most of the are modernists and logical positivists — because that is the culture they grew up in.

They are to a man and woman, vaxxed, because the government and institutions they grew up with were trustworthy.

I gre up in the Church. I chose Christ young. I attended a church that preaches the gospel and calls people using plain preaching and the power of God> But that church has been scattered by COVID. So two quotes that summarize where we are, and that the mid century assumptions of the generation of 1968 don’t work no more.

The 2021 Christian cannot, in other words, depend on anything external. More-and-more of the external is in the hands of the Enemy – and this external world is more and more directed against Christianity.

The motivations of the Christian need to be internal; the Christian needs to be as conscious as possible, and to have made an individual and active choice for all essential aspects of his faith.

The Christian who retains real faith in 2021 will probably therefore have a faith, and a conversion-experience, of a very different kind than a convert from even a few decades ago.

A 2021-Christian needs to be able to sustain his faith from within and consciously, and to acknowledge that his faith is his own continuing choice.

And again..

I will be driving two hours later in the afternoon for the 5pm service at my little underground church. I hope that you all have a blessed Sunday.

I think Adam is onto something here. You are going to have to travel to find an authentic church. The mega churches are being challenged by the social distancing laws. Any decent church will not look at COVID passports before allowing people to attend, or limit services to 100. We need to flow with the demands of our tyrant, but not lose faith.

For we know, in our bones, that the assumptions of an evil age are false.

Psalm 119:17-24

17 Deal bountifully with your servant,
that I may live and keep your word.
18 Open my eyes, that I may behold
wondrous things out of your law.
19 I am a sojourner on the earth;
hide not your commandments from me!
20 My soul is consumed with longing
for your rules at all times.
21 You rebuke the insolent, accursed ones,
who wander from your commandments.
22 Take away from me scorn and contempt,
for I have kept your testimonies.
23 Even though princes sit plotting against me,
your servant will meditate on your statutes.
24 Your testimonies are my delight;
they are my counsellors.

1 Peter 2:1-10

2 So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. 2 Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation— 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.

4 As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, 5 you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For it stands in Scripture:

“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone,
a cornerstone chosen and precious,
and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”

7 So the honour is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe,

“The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone”,

8 and

“A stone of stumbling,
and a rock of offence.”

They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.

9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

I expect that over the next while there will be more opposition. We can win small things: there may eb ways forward God vives us. We need to treat the current official advice we are given as we would treat a heretic. Or a rattlesnake.

This will require, as Charlton notes, active choices. To particulate in this community, to not participate in that community. In this season I don’t have much time for things I used to enyou deeply. The rules around them are so driven by a spirit of fear that I’m no longer desiring of being part of that group. Instead I’m repulsed.

But in this, we are making less compromises. We are having the comforting lies about our socide ripped away. Our trust in the rulers is broken — in the church and outside the church — and the sorrow from the consequences of actions we were advised to do is all to real.

But this allows the spirit to do his work. I pray for eevival: of the church, of our faith, of hope, of simple wisdom. But I do not expect this to come from some external leader.

It will come from the spirit of God allowing us to stand though the woke the toxic progressives, their Green useful idiots, and their tame minorities howl at us. Because they ad doomed for destruction, and they know that those who remain in Christ will be his royal priesthood.
