There are two historical enemies of Israel: Egypt from the South and Assyria/Babylon/Persia from the north. Moab and Edom were less of an issue, and the Philistines were also an issue, but the promise here relates to the powers that had imperial ambitions.
And it is partially fufilled, in that before Islam all of the Levant and Egypt and most of Palestine were Christian. The Jews were scattered.
But in this time, all scripture is still profitable to us. The question is what does this mean to us.
In the time to come, all nations will be seen as blessings to God, and all peoples will worship him. There will be unity.
I would argue that forcing that unity between nations in the hope we can bring paradise here is unwise. Foolish. The current tests are helpful. Our Russian friends know how to deal with such soft fascism: non compliance and satirical humour.
You can start with baby steps. Here bluntness helps.
This is indeed an opportunity for all of us to practice both discernment and the act of growing some balls. The ability to accurately discern current events and the state of play is the more difficult of these two virtues, for want of a better word. In fact, the latter cannot be undertaken without the former. But I know many people who have indeed discerned the true nature of things but have not been able to act on their intuition.
The list of things prohibiting the discovery of a pair of balls is overlong and uninspiring. It ranges from being able to go and buy a coffee to keeping a job, and everything in between. It is not easy for almost any of us, unless you live as a hermit with your physical needs delivered to your door and your spiritual needs safely taken care of in some manner. I have had to make some hard choices in this time. I have had to stand up under a great deal of pressure and quietly but firmly declare that my beliefs do not allow me to submit to this poison.
I am now living in a country where I have great difficulty in going to do my grocery shopping. I have to plan alternative ways of being able to gather the daily resources I need. I have had to become both crafty and patient. Some things I just cannot buy anymore or experience. So I simply let them go. There is no other way.
This is a wonderful test that we are living through. We get the opportunity to experience soft tyranny and to see how we measure up in standing against it. More and more people that I talk to when they discover that I have refused the government poison then unburden themselves to me.
Brother Adam is, of course, an Aussie. Weird place there. The animals all try to kill you and the government makes too many rulers designed to keep you safe. I have to deal with their administration too frequently… well imagine a combination of a Finnish Liquor store and the DMV in California. Don;t get me started on Victoria. I live in a socialist dictatorship that is modeling itself on DanAndrewstan.
The wisest thing any Premier of New Zealand did (Richard Seddon, for the interested) was not join Australia in 1901. We are different nations, and it shows.
These forced global regulations are a mistake. Far better for the Russian Bear to Remain Russian, and for us all to repent from the hubris that our nation is the middle kingdom, Godzone, the city shining on the hill. All nations are. Or none.
18 In that day there will be five cities in the land of Egypt that speak the language of Canaan and swear allegiance to the Lord of hosts. One of these will be called the City of Destruction.
19 In that day there will be an altar to the Lord in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to the Lord at its border. 20 It will be a sign and a witness to the Lord of hosts in the land of Egypt. When they cry to the Lord because of oppressors, he will send them a savior and defender, and deliver them. 21 And the Lord will make himself known to the Egyptians, and the Egyptians will know the Lord in that day and worship with sacrifice and offering, and they will make vows to the Lord and perform them. 22 And the Lord will strike Egypt, striking and healing, and they will return to the Lord, and he will listen to their pleas for mercy and heal them.
23 In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria, and Assyria will come into Egypt, and Egypt into Assyria, and the Egyptians will worship with the Assyrians.
24 In that day Israel will be the third with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing in the midst of the earth, 25 whom the Lord of hosts has blessed, saying, “Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel my inheritance.”
2 May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. 5 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. 10 Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. 11 For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
12 Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have. 13 I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by way of reminder, 14 since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me. 15 And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things.
The current times are evil. Very evil. I have been dealing today with two things: working towards projects that will probably be destroyed when the job is disappeared because the unvaxxed are deemed undermeschen, and seeing terrible news about pericarditis and strokes. We cannot stop these things.
What we can do is add to our basic faith virtue. We can avoid that which is wrong, and seek what is noble.
From that we can increase our knowledge, not for pride but so that we can discern the patterns of the time, and aim to be not virtue signalling fools faking godliness but develop self control.
And from that we become habitual in our disciplines, and harden ourselves against the spirit of this age, becoming stubborn, cross grained and a right pain to those who are trying to get us to compromise. This is called steadfastness. The aim here is not to be stubborn in our sin, but to be stubbornly seeking godliness.
I am not saying I am anywhere near completed in this journey. What I can say is that those who are on this (and it is work, a struggle, and there will be times of despair and failings and a sense that nothing you can do will matter one iota) you will find brothers and sisters with whom you have support, affection and who you care for. Even though you may never meet them.
And you will find them not in the places you thought they would be. At the moment it is the megachurches and the liberal, fashionable mainline and novus ordo that are bending with the laws and segregating. The old school Presbyterians are too stubborn. They are not. The best analyses of this time are often coming from the Sedevacantists or the Orthodox.
We may be many nations, but we are one in Christ. In this life, we need to attend to these things.
The elite would damn us. But every step we make to being more like Christ we will find (I am paraphrasing C.S Lewis) that we are more like what we were born to be.
We are more ourselves.
The elite want us converged as NPCs.
We are called to rewrite the game, by the Grace of God.
